Can you believe this?

Something outrageous happened to me over the weekend and I need to write about it. I’m furious.

We had a blizzard & it was magical. It was so exciting for the kids. Sledding, building forts, building a snowman. I never thought wanting to build a snowman would cause such a problem, but it did.

It all started when friends came over with a snowman making kit. I was skeptical. Did we really need a kit? Whatever, I got over it. I had old scarves and hats ready. I had a real carrot for its nose and old buttons for its eyes. We all started to build it together, and then I said this: “Our snowman is looking really great you guys!”

And that’s when the trouble started.

The mom corrected me, in front of our kids. “You mean we’re building a snow person, right?” Excuse me, what? Then she lectured me on how mailmen aren’t called mailmen anymore and firemen are called firefighters. She said Snowmen are snow people now.

Are you kidding me? Is this for real?

Yes it was. I tried to laugh it off, but she started in with a lecture about how we should watch what we say in front of our kids.

We finished the “snow person” and I put my husband’s old hat on him. The kids named him Billy.

I made a joke about how he’s now officially a snowman given the hat & the name and guess what she said? “I know a girl named Billy.”
